Follow TVK through Cali's pregnancy journey from conception to delivery. We will cover the usual weekly developments as well as details specific to Cali, our future mama dog.

Week 2 : Days 8-14
During week 2 fertilization has occurred and the fertilized eggs are heading toward the uterus.
The embryos are still incredibly small and they are floating through the uterine horns.
More hormonal changes occur but there will usually not be any physical signs.
Typically mom will behave normally, she will be eating and resting as she has been.
Cali is already a fairly needy dog and she loves Mr. TVK more than anything. We noticed week 2 she was seeking out even more attention from him and seemed to bark more to unknown noises.
Tips during week 2:
Try to maintain a normal schedule and routine to avoid too much stress.
No need to change food just yet unless your vet has provided guidance to do so.
If you have a high strung or very active mom this is when you can start dialing back activity. Try to avoid strenuous activities or rough play.
Week 3: Days 15-21
During week 3 embryos will begin implanting into the uterine lining.
Implantation starts around day 19 to day 21
This is when the embryo will develop their placenta. That is what provides nourishment to the puppy throughout pregnancy.
Hormone levels are rising more noticeably now.
You might start seeing changes in your mom.
She might be a little more hungry than normal
You might notice she is a little more nauseous.
She may become more affectionate.
You might notice she is sleeping more than normal.
Cali had been having some mini throw up incidents during this week and is visibly nauseous. We noticed an increase in her affection last week but that has still been going on. She is sleeping really hard and seeking out quiet more often than not. Cali has been enjoying a good amount of solo time or she has been hanging out with her mom Electra.
Tips during Week 3
Monitor for changes in behavior and appetite
You can increase food a little if you notice she is not satisfied after meals. No need to switch foods just yet.
Make sure you work closely with your vet if you are unsure about changes your mom to be may be going through.
What is next?
Veterinary confirmation of pregnancy is possible at weeks 4 - 5 via ultrasound. We have set up an appointment to see if we have puppies.
Tomorrow we will post the results of confirmation! Stay tunes for more information.
